The Money
Advance, Udhaar and What Is Still Owed
Money in a darzi's shop arrives in two halves and sometimes three. Something at order, something at trial, the rest on collection. Kept in a separate book, the halves drift apart, and the disagreement always happens at the counter with the customer listening.
Here every payment sits on the order, dated. The balance is on screen when they come to collect, without turning a page. When a school, a shop or a company wants a proper GST bill, it comes off the same record, so the price quoted at the counter is the price on the bill.
The bill goes out on WhatsApp in one tap — which is also the politest reminder there is for udhaar that has been pending three weeks.
